Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know that Mervyn’s the body shop is the right shop for me?
Talk to your service advisor from your dealership. They will refer you to the place with the highest level of satisfaction. Yes, we have invested heavily into the most cutting edge technology available. Yes, we are committed to leading the collision repair industry in technical skills, equipment and quality of work. We have many highly trained craftsmen with years of experience repairing all makes and models of vehicles and we are an ICBC Express C.A.R. Shop Valet. We are continually investigating newer and better ways to repair and finish your damaged vehicle to ensure that you are 100% satisfied and we back that up in writing with our guarantee. But don’t take our word for it. Ask around.
How long will the auto body repair take?
That depends. Each repair is different. However, we will give you an accurate estimate of how long we think your repair before we begin as well as an estimate of the costs. We will also keep you well informed of our progress. Our goal is always to get your car or truck back to you as quickly as possible without compromising on the quality of the repairs we perform.
Do I have to take my vehicle to where I bought it if I’ve been in an accident?
No, you do not. First, most dealerships are not equipped with a full service body shop. In some cases they will refer you to their “preferred” independent auto body shops. Sometimes these are not the best choice for you. You are best to do your own research and find out who is the popular choice for many Kelowna residents for their auto body work.
Does Mervyn’s offer a courtesy car?
Yes we do have a courtesy car for our clients to use. We will work with you to ensure you are still mobile while your vehicle is being repaired at our facility. If your insurance allows for it, we can even help you arrange for a rental vehicle to use during the repair process.
How does Mervyn’s guarantee work?
We offer a lifetime written guarantee on all work completed by us. We can do this because Mervyns has been in business in Kelowna for over 40 years. Our reputation speaks for itself.
Do I have to use the repair shop the insurance company recommends?
No. The choice is yours — by law, in the majority of cases. Yet an important question remains: Will you get a quality repair?
Choosing the insurance company’s repair shop has benefits for the insurance company only. Most insurance companies have repair contracts with body shops in your area. They negotiate lower labor and material rates with the repair shop, as well as parts discounts with those shops. The shop will have met the insurance company’s equipment and training requirements. Insurance companies will also require their shop to provide a lifetime warranty. Insurance company claims representatives are given set goals. In general, companies would like to see at least 40 percent of their claims go to their direct repair shops. If you have chosen your own repair shop, claims representatives will frequently try to sway you away from your decision, telling you that your shop isn’t on their list, thus they won’t be able to handle your claim efficiently. They may explain that it will take up to a week before an adjuster will be available to write an estimate on your car. They could go further by stating that their company will not warranty the repairs if you don’t have your car repaired at their shop. Do not be intimidated by this.
Reputable auto body repair shops provide a lifetime warranty no matter who is paying the bill. Shops are systematically interested in handling your claim and the repairs efficiently. Also, shop estimators are familiar with your insurance company’s claims process and know their local adjusters, making it easy to complete the estimate process and repairs quickly. Again, the choice is yours.
Overall, whether it’s the insurance company’s recommended shop or your shop of choice, it is important that you choose a repair shop that you feel confident in. Ask friends, family, co-workers or your dealership for recommendations, and read Google Reviews.
Will I notice a difference in how my car or truck drives after it’s been repaired?
No. Our goal is to ensure that your auto body repair is done to the same specifications as the vehicle had when it came off the assembly line. Our Symach equipment is state-of-the-art and our technicians are trained in the latest techniques to ensure that your vehicle is repaired back to the condition it was prior to the incident or better and we guarantee it!
How closely will the new paint match the old finish?
You won’t be able to notice the difference! Our paint booths and spraying equipment are state of the art. Each and every vehicle color is individually matched by our computerized paint system and skilled technicians so that Mervyn’s Auto Body can guarantee a complete paint match.
Does an accident affect my new vehicles warranty?
No it does not. We understand that you are concerned about how a collision will affect your ownership of your newer vehicle. So you should know that it is against the law for dealers to refuse warranty work to a qualifying part that was not affected directly from a collision. That is why as an ICBC-Accredited Auto Body Repair Shop we are bound under contract to provide all our clients who go through ICBC insurance with a guarantee on all work done in the final copy of the ICBC Claim.
When can I get my car or truck in for repairs?
While we’d like to be able to tell you “as soon as possible” that would be irresponsible of us. We would need to know more about the condition of your vehicle. Is it safe to drive as it is? Or does a tow truck need to be hired to bring your vehicle to Mervyn’s? How available are the parts needed to fix your car or truck? And if so where and when do we get them so we can finish the repairs? We need to do a little research before we can say to you when you can bring your vehicle in. While we don’t want to keep you waiting we do want to ensure that your vehicle is brought in as soon as it is safe to do so and that it is repaired as quickly as possible.
